Bolivian “Emotivists” in the diplomatic relation between Bolivia and Chile about the Mediterranean feel

Abstract

Among the different opinions on foreign policy that have arisen in Bolivia regarding the problem of the Mediterranean feel, “reivindicacionismo” (vindicated) has been the most recognized trend. Though “reivindicacionismo” has different aspects, “emotivism” is one of the most representative. It has become, over the past decade, into one of the most influential sources both in foreign policy of that country and in means of communication and national policy. This article analyses the historical origin of that school of thought about Bolivian foreign policy, in which factors outside the field of diplomacy stand out, and its connections to theoretical opinions on international relations.

Sergio González Miranda, Universidad Arturo Prat

Investigador y profesor titular del Instituto de Estudios Internacionales de la Universidad Arturo Prat. Doctor en Estudios Americanos con mención en Relaciones Internacionales por la Universidad de Santiago de Chile. Premio Nacional de Historia 2014. Se especializa en historia de las relaciones transfronterizas Chile, Bolivia y Perú, e historia del salitre. Director del proyecto Conicyt Anillos SOC 1109. Ha publicado alrededor de un centenar de escritos entre libros, capítulos de libros, prólogos y artículos.

Cristián Ovando Santana, Universidad Arturo Prat

Investigador y profesor asistente del Instituto de Estudios Internacionales de la Universidad Arturo Prat. Máster y doctorando en Estudios Internacionales por la Universidad del País Vasco, Leioa, España. Becario CONICYT. Se especializa en Relaciones Chile-Bolivia y en las transformaciones de la diplomacia tradicional chilena. Ha publicado, entre capítulos de libros y artículos, más de veinte trabajos.
