Abstract

This article presents an exploratory study regarding the public performances that have been self-identified as “carnivals.” These expressions are typically performed in significant spaces to the “Pobladores movement” in Santiago, Chile. Based on this social movement’s historical process, this study aims to account for the role of artistic-cultural practices in “Pobladores organization” and social movement. By so doing, this research would contribute to the debate on the rearticulation of communities in contexts determined by urban inequality. In addition, this investigation may also allow the construction of a research program based upon the concepts of collective action, production of space, and social creativity conducted by the comprehension of historical continuity and social movement formation.
