Mejorar el bienestar de las personas mayores antes, durante y después de la crisis de COVID: perspectivas de Zimbabwe, Lesotho y Eswatini

Resumen

COVID 19 ha hecho más urgente la incorporación de enfoques sólidos para el envejecimiento en las agendas nacionales de desarrollo. El artículo explora los dominios de protección social de estos tres países al ofrecer un entorno propicio para la dignidad de las personas mayores y un mejor funcionamiento social antes, durante y con suerte después de la pandemia de COVID. Se utilizan fuentes de datos secundarias, incluida la revisión de políticas y documentos de investigación. El artículo también sugiere vías por las cuales los trabajadores sociales de primera línea pueden contribuir a impulsar la protección y el bienestar de las personas mayores en el entorno de la pandemia de COVID 19, y ofrece algunas reflexiones sobre los desafíos de los trabajadores sociales.

Biografía del autor/a

Tatenda Goodman Nhapi, Universidad de Johannesburgo

Licenciado en Trabajo Social por la Universidad de Zimbabue y graduado en Erasmus Mundus MA Advanced Development in Social Work, un programa en conjunto con la Universidad de Lincoln  (Inglaterra); la Universidad de Aalborg (Dinamarca); la Universidad Técnica de Lisboa (Portugal); la Universidad de París Ouest Nantere La Defense (Francia); la Universidad de Varsovia (Polonia). Comenzó su carrera en Zimbabue (2008-2013) trabajando en Apoyo, Desarrollo e Investigación Social, centrándose en el bienestar infantil y en cuestiones de género. Mientras trabajaba en el Departamento de Servicios Sociales de Zimbabue, su trabajo se centró en las políticas y la aplicación de protocolos  relativos al cuidado y la protección de los niños niñas, las personas mayores, las personas con  discapacidad, las personas desfavorecidas y los hogares en dificultades. Es investigador asociado en el Departamento de Trabajo Social y Desarrollo Comunitario de la Universidad de Johannesburgo, Sudáfrica. El programa de investigación de Tatenda gira en torno a la política social y la aplicación de programas de desarrollo en su intento de abordar cuestiones como la pobreza, la desigualdad, el VIH/SIDA y las trampas de la pobreza de grupos vulnerables como las mujeres, los niños, las personas mayores y los jóvenes. Tatenda goza de un elevado prestigio académico con una creciente reputación en el ámbito de la investigación, que se pone de manifiesto en una cartera emergente de publicaciones reconocidas internacionalmente.
